Sandvold Blanda Architects reinvents the Marathon Grill brand in their newest location: a restored, 19th century industrial loft, re-imagined as an authentic, 175-seat, American bistro. The two-story, two- building space was unified through new openings in the original timbered, wood floors and brick walls. Over the main bar, a custom-fabricated, steel and walnut stair links the two floors and creates a dramatic procession through the space.
The architects invoke the memory of the original cast-iron storefront by the addition of a modern, floor-to 14-foot high ceiling glass wall, opening the main dining room to the street. Comfortable, custom-designed seating and a 24-foot walnut bar/ lunch counter on the first floor are complemented by an additional dining room and a second bar upstairs. This handsome modern space is both Philadelphia's newest destination restaurant and its newest neighborhood living room.
Under construction, opening Fall 2007. The seventh of this award winning Breweries and Restaruants will be located in the ground floor of a new Industrial style building at Franklin and Marshall college. With glass on three sides this will be one of the most open Iron hill's yet with the full brewing process visible from the exterior.
Phase 1 of a long-range series of renovations to a historic 1910 shingle-style residence, an existing pool house and garage were transformed into a spa pavilion with outdoor fireplace, and a barn-playhouse- complete with sliding barn-door stage open to the pool.
